In order to keep your Joomla! website in top condition, you should keep an eye on a variety of factors ranging from security to browser updates, and from usability to SEO. Some factors require almost daily monitoring, while others are unlikely to change over a couple of weeks or months. Use the checklist below to review your Joomla! website(s) and keep them in top shape. Some of these tasks can easily be automated, try doing so when possible to increase their frequency and decrease the workload related to them!

Daily

• Check if there is a new version of Joomla! available (for example via Twitter) and update your website if there is one
• Check your bug tracker for any outstanding issues with your website
• Review Joomla Reader for tips, news and articles to keep up to date on anything related to Joomla!
• Backup your website and database (for example using Akeeba Backup) and test the backups for integrity
• Use Twitter to keep up to date on any Joomla! related material and stay in touch with your fans

Weekly

• Analyze your visitors statistics to determine possible problems / opportunities
• Add new content to your website that is relevant to your target audience
• Contact your support staff and discuss any recent issues and additions to your knowledge base with them
• Use your website like a visitor would (logged out) to uncover any problem you will not encounter as an admin
• Verify that your SSL certificates are still valid

Monthly

• Do a site search on Google to see if your title tags and meta descriptions are the way you'd like them to be (search for site:www.yourwebsite.org)
• Review the Vulnerable Extensions List in search of vulnerable extensions you might be running
• Run Xenu Link Sleuth to find broken links or images
• Use Google Webmaster Tools to analyze any crawl errors, links to your website, HTML suggestions etc.
• Upgrade your Joomla template to the latest available stable version
• Search Google for your targeted keywords to discover your positions and analyze competitors to discover opportunities to rank higher
• Review your product offers and information about the company or organization behind the website
• Search Google for your own brand name or product name to discover what others are writing about you

Quarterly

• Check your website on the most recent version of all popular browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Google Chrome, etc.) to look for compatibility problems
• Review your Terms of Use and Privacy Policy to see if the information in it is still accurate
• Do usability testing on your website to ensure any (user interface) changes you made are still clear to your visitors
• Review your FAQ to see if any questions can be added or answers have to be modified to match the current situation
• Analyze customer feedback to find opportunities for improving your website
• Surf your website using the latest mobile phones and tablets to ensure it is displayed and functioning correctly
• Check if there were any obsolete modules or plugins still being loaded on your website, causing it to slow down

Yearly

• Review the latest SEO ranking factors to see if you're website is still up-to-date in terms of SEO
• Combine CSS and/or JS files to reduce the number of HTTP requests and speed up your website considerably
• Upgrade the year displayed in your copyright notice if this isn't updated automatically
